7pm -Keene Valley houses

These two buildings are in the little town of Keene Valley. At around 7 pm in Aug. the sun sets behinds the mountains (Brothers,

Big Slide, Roostercomb...) creating raking shadows and intense colors.I think a series is emerging. I could paint these buildings every day. 9x9 in. oil sold

Chapel Pond rainy morning oil 10x10in

It was raining on our last morning in Keene valley. I drove out to Chapel Pond at first light and painted this quickly before the rain poured down. Being forced to paint fast makes the paintbrush make the decisions not your mind. It's impossible to be fussy when its raining on your head. SOLD

Baxter Mt. from Keene Valley

Baxter Mt. from Keene Valley. oil 10x 10in.

iIwas painting plein-air along the trail leading to Rooster Comb mt. There is a small beaver pond near the school. The two little white houses in the painting are the ones I have painted under sunset light furthur down the page. Anyway, a woman hikes by and stops to look. She bought the painting wet, right off the easel! I boxed it up for her in a Noonmark Diner pie box (perfect fit). My first Keene Valley sale.

Keene Valley porch.
oil 9x9"
When the sun hits the town it strikes this porch first. They used to have a red canoe with the yellow kayak. Now both are gone and the house is up for sale. Life is as transitory as the light.
